A little about me

With a background education in Psychology, I have followed a path that led through therapeutic and academic settings, art and illustration, yoga and writing. I write to you from my desk in my home in the Irish countryside, which I share with my husband, teenage son, and two dogs.

Over on my Substack publication I write about life and the self, connection and soul, the pause between moments, the stillpoint amidst the busyness, the power of rest, and ponder what we might discover there. I have found that connecting to a quietness deep inside, is inextricably linked to creativity and my writing. The two go hand-in-hand. Sometimes I practice rest and quietude in order to express myself through writing, and sometimes I write to connect with that stillness inside.

I am a deep thinker, seeker of understanding, curious being. I am Mama to my teenage son, trained Yoga teacher, sound healer, and studied to PhD level by research in the field of Psychology. I am happiest pottering, exploring, writing, being. I am fortunate to be accompanied by (and to learn from) canine souls on this journey, and my two dogs keep me company at my writing desk (and keep me on my toes!). I am committed to the practice of resting, of sitting in silence, and observing what naturally arises from within. I am fascinated by our intricacies, complexities and similarities. I love time alone, but also love the support and comfort to be found in connection.

I am the Author and Illustrator of two books, The Girl And The Dog (for all ages, but written with adults in mind), and All Of My Heart (a children’s picture book).

I hold Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra classes, and Sound Journey sessions near where I live, trying in my own small way to help those who attend to find moments of rest, a time to connect with the present and the self.

Having grown up in Dublin, and worked in and around the city for many years, I now enjoy a slow-ish life in the Irish countryside, on the border of Co. Meath and Co. Cavan. When I’m not walking with the dogs, Mr. M and my son, I can be found browsing bookshops, savouring time in coffee shops, unwinding in my yoga room at my writing desk, or pottering in the garden, cuppa in hand.

Thank you for being here,

Deborah
